PHOENIX -- Early morning showers drenched the East Valley on Friday. Pop-up showers developed over South and Central Phoenix and slowly moved east, dumping about 0.25 to 0.33 inch of rain in spots like Ahwatukee, Chandler, Queen Creek, Tempe and Gilbert. More than 0.5 inch of rain fell in about an hour in Mesa.
The National Weather Service issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for a few hours because of streets and low-lying areas that were beginning to flood.
The rest of the day and evening includes a slight chance of more showers.
Partly sunny skies are forecast, with afternoon highs in the upper 90s.
Over the weekend, look for highs between about 101 and 103 under partly cloudy skies. Storm chances are best in the high country of Northern and Eastern Arizona.
There is a slight chance of Valley storms from Sunday night through much of next week, with warmer afternoon temperatures of near 105 degrees in the forecast by mid-week.
