STATEWIDE -- A winter storm brought chilly rain to the Valley and snow to the high country Friday.

The National Weather Service issued an urban and small stream advisory for central Maricopa County in south-central Arizona, including the cities of East Mesa, Ahwatukee, Tempe, Sun Lakes, Mesa, Gilbert, Fountain Hills and Chandler.

That means there's the potential for localized street flooding, as well as running washes thanks to moderate to heavy rain.

Many Valley locations saw up to 0.5 inch of rain in a very short time period.

The NWS advisory expired at 7:15 a.m.

The National Weather Service says 0.18 inch of rain fell in Phoenix by 5 a.m. More rain is expected across south-central Arizona before it begins to taper off by the afternoon.

While rain-slicked streets contributed to several minor fender-benders, no serious issues have been reported. Drivers were urged to be aware of water ponding in low-lying areas.

In Flagstaff, about 8 inches of snow came down overnight.

A winter weather advisory is in effect in northern, eastern and north-central Arizona above 6,000 feet, covering the White Mountains, the Mogollon Rim and mountains in Yavapai County.

The Arizona Department of Transportation reports snow on Interstates 17 and 40 near Flagstaff and on State Route 87 north of Payson.
