PHOENIX -- A cold weather system is headed toward Arizona. It’s due into the state beginning Friday into Saturday.

In the deserts, the big change will be temperatures. Early week highs are going to be around 90. By Saturday, the highs expected around metro Phoenix will be in the low 60s.

There will be a slight chance for showers, especially Friday night into Saturday morning as the front pushes through. We’ll also see gusty winds out of the southwest on Friday with gusts around 40 mph. Blowing dust is possible.

In northern Arizona, this will be a winter-type storm with winds gusting up to 55 mph and snow levels dropping to about the 4,500 foot level, so places like Payson and Prescott could see some snow. But that’s the open question at this point; how much snow.

The system doesn’t seem to be very wet at this time, but we could see a couple of inches of snow in many locations. As the forecast resolves toward the end of the week, we’ll be able to estimate the snow intensity and locations. But the bottom line -- if you’re going to be in the high country this weekend, prepare for wintery conditions.
