PHOENIX -- A strong ridge of high pressure remains firmly situated over the Desert Southwest, leading to unseasonably hot afternoon temperatures.
Our Excessive Heat Warning continues for the Valley through Thursday at 8 p.m.
Look for sunny skies and a high near 109 degrees both Wednesday and Thursday in the Valley. Although that's not record-breaking heat, it's well above normal for this time of year, which is closer to 101 degrees.
Clear skies and a dry air mass will keep overnight lows fairly pleasant in the 70s.
Later this week, a series of weather disturbances will sweep by to our north, helping to weaken the ridge of high pressure and bring down our temperatures a little.
Highs from Friday through the weekend will be closer to 106-107 degrees.
