PHOENIX -- A Valley teen accused of killing his friend’s father pleaded not guilty on Thursday.

Erik McBee, 16, is facing a first degree murder charge for allegedly beating and then stabbing to death 39-year-old Steven Gibson.

McBee was reportedly at the family’s home near 75th Avenue and Thunderbird on March 1 when he got into an argument with Gibson.

McBee allegedly wound up killing Gibson, and then attempted to cover his tracks by taking Gibson’s body to the garage and cleaning the crime scene.

Gibson’s wife saw the body in the garage when she returned home, prompting McBee to flee the scene.

He eventually returned to turn himself in.

McBee is due back in court on April 29.
