PHOENIX -- Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are posted for the higher elevations of our state beginning Friday morning.

A rather strong, late winter storm is moving in. With it, we expect windy and cooler conditions and an abundance of rain and snow.

In the Valley, we’ll see highs drop from around 80 Thursday to the upper 50s on Saturday. And on Friday, our latest forecast maps are indicating we’ll receive between a quarter of an inch and half an inch of rain.

In the mountains, areas above 6,500 feet in elevation could receive eight to 14 inches of snow by Saturday night. Above 5,500 feet, we’re looking at snowfall accumulations in the range of five to 10 inches.

As the cold front pushes through, we’ll also see a few thunderstorms in the Valley. And in the mountains, that means we’re looking at thundersnow.
