PHOENIX -- Strong winds and a dry air mass won't help firefighters battling a major wildfire in Arizona today.
An area of low pressure moving through the Pacific Northwest will cause strong winds from the southwest across Northern Arizona today. Sustained winds between 15 and 25 mph are expected in the high country, while relative humidity is expected below 10 percent.
There is a Red Flag Warning in effect for much of Northern Arizona, including the Prescott area, between noon and 7 p,m, today.
The Doce Fire is burning about eight miles northwest of Prescott. Temperatures should top out in that area near about 90 degrees this afternoon. Tomorrow is also expected to be a windy day, with a Fire Weather Watch in effect for much of the high country.
Winds today and tomorrow should be much lighter in the Valley, between about 10 and 15 mph.
Look for a Valley high near 106 degrees this afternoon and a low tonight near 80 degrees.
Warm and dry weather is expected through the weekend with no rain in sight.
