LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. -- Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium is already a great place for the whole family to get up-close and personal with some wild animals. But this weekend, you'll find even more to enjoy there.

The all new 15-acre Safari Park grand opening will take place Saturday, January 25. And on Wednesday's Good Morning Arizona, 3TV's April Warnecke got a preview of what the new attraction has to offer.

Wildlife World Zoo's Dr. Grey Stafford says this a project that's been in the works for a long time. "It's years of preparation and planning and permitting and construction, and it cost almost $3 million to build this extension," he says.

The area includes a new African lion habitat and a variety of African birds.  Visitors can walk around the safari park and take an optional tram ride through several animal exhibits. "It's a really immersive experience," says Stafford. "Very similar to a train ride in that you're in with the animals. But we've got all new species out here."

Once the expansion project is completed later this spring, the Safari Park will also feature these species:

  • Greater Kudu
  • Baboons
  • Rock Hyrax
  • Wildebeest
  • Watusi Cattle
  • Cheetahs

The park is also celebrating its 30-year anniversary, so come celebrate and check out the new attraction.

Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium is located at 16501 W. Northern Avenue, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340. It's open seven days a week, 365 days a year, including all holidays.

Zoo exhibits are open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Last zoo admission is at 5:00 p.m.) Aquarium exhibits are open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
