PHOENIX -- Volunteers spent a large part of last weekend helping a Valley man with a hoarding problem.
Huong Van Nguyen’s problem with hoarding started during the Vietnam War when he spent six years at a prison camp.
To make his cell feel more like home, Nguyen would sneak in different items.
Unfortunately, Nguyen continued to collect objects after he moved to his home near 48th Street and Roseser.
Armed with masks and gloves, volunteers tackled Nguyen’s backyard to try and clear his property of all the “stuff.”
Nguyen says he hopes this is the first step towards ending his hoarding problem.
