PHOENIX -- As the ridge of high pressure that brought us the unseasonably hot weather moves to the east and weakens, temperatures will moderate around Arizona. The result will be dry weather into next week with temperatures a little bit above normal.

The Arizona Monsoon officially begins on June 15, this Saturday. The Weather Service started using a “hard” date to start the season about five years ago.

However, we still track the arrival of the monsoon via the old legacy definition of the start of the monsoon in Phoenix, three consecutive days with average dewpoints of 55 or more.

Last year, the monsoon arrived in Phoenix on July 3. Typically, it arrives around July 7. This season, the best forecast is that the monsoon will arrive late.
