PHOENIX -- A toddler was taken to a hospital in serious condition Saturday after nearly drowning in a hot tub at a birthday party.
It occurred at an apartment complex near 33rd and Peoria avenues.
Phoenix Fire Capt. Jonathan Jacobs said the 3-year-old girl was in the hot tub with eight to 10 other kids when she slipped to the bottom. It was about 3 feet deep.
The children noticed the girl at the bottom and called to parents, who pulled her out of the water and began CPR.
Firefighters arrived and continued CPR. They began advanced life support and transported her to a local hospital.
"This is very silent when it occurs," Jacobs said. "She just slipped down and became unconscious underneath the water."
This was this second drowning call Phoenix firefighters responded to Saturday.
A 1-year-old boy was pronounced dead at a hospital after being pulled from a backyard pool in the morning.
