SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting at a Scottsdale home. Police say the deadly shot was self-inflicted.
Around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, two Scottsdale police officers responded to a 911 call from a home near 82nd Street and Camelback Road.
They entered the home through an open door and found a man, now identified as Gordon Durack, lying on a bed in the rear bedroom, Scottsdale Police Department spokesman Sgt. Mark Clark said.
"The room was dark and Durack was illuminated by the officers' flashlights," according to a news release.
The officers spotted a gun on the bed next to Durack. Although they ordered him not to touch the weapon, police say Durack, 52, lifted the gun in the officers' direction.
At that point, one of the officers fired at Durack, but did not hit him.
"At the same time the officer fired, Durack brought the gun up to his own head and fired one round," according to the news release.
Durack had a roommate who was not home at the time of the shooting. No other information about Durack or what might have prompted his actions was immediately available.
