SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. -- A San Tan Valley mother is dead after a suspect gunned her down in her own home Sunday afternoon. Pinal County Sheriff's Deputies are now searching for the gunman, who reportedly knows the victim's adult daughter.
Sherri, who asked us to conceal her last name, has lived on Via de Palmas for years, and is heartbroken at the loss of her new neighbor she hadn't yet met. Linda Pirelli Brown, 50, and her family had only been in their new home in this neighborhood for a few weeks.
Sunday afternoon, Sherri was in her backyard, when she heard something down the street.
"We heard the gunshots go off, but we thought it was target shooting in the canal because that happens all the time here," Sherri said.
But what she heard were gunshots fired by a man inside Pirelli Brown's home. He showed up asking for Linda's 25-year-old daughter. She wasn't home, so the man called the daughter's phone.
"She could hear her mom yelling he has a gun to my head, he has a gun to my head," said Tim Gaffney with the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
The line disconnected and the daughter called 911. But when officers arrived they found her mother shot multiple times. Hours later, Pirelli Brown died at a local hospital.
It's been hard for Sherri to absorb what she heard.
"We heard it, didn't think anything about it and the next thing we know the Sheriff's at the door telling us what happened," she said.
Now the Sheriff's Deputies are hunting the gunman, with the family's help.
"It's not a random person out there doing those crimes," said Gaffney with PCSO. "This was a known person to the family and our homicide detectives have been working around the clock and we'll continue to work this case until we have an individual in custody."
Pirelli Brown leaves behind a husband, her 25-year-old and two other daughters, under the age of 13.
