PHOENIX -- With two police motorcycles leading the way, the wheels started turning and the Ride to Honor the Badge event took off Sunday morning.

It was all to celebrate the lives of fallen Phoenix police Officer Daryl Raetz and firefighter Brad Harper.

“Firefighters and policemen are at the top of my heart, they protect us and serve us every single day and I can't thank them enough, this is my way to thank them,” said rider Chris Lopez.

It's a 40-mile bicycle ride from Mountainside Fitness on Carefree Highway where officer Raetz worked out to Mountainside Fitness Lake Pleasant where firefighter Harper worked out.

“We're out here celebrating their lives, that's the main thing I want everyone to know, to honor the men and women who are in public safety every day that are keeping our community safer,” said Tanner Cook, who helped organize Sunday’s bicycle ride.

Money raised from registration and donations will all go to the 100 Club, which is an organization that helps the families of those who protect us.

“It's just so great that all these people showed up to honor the two, Harper and Officer Raetz, because there needs to be a little more awareness about some of the sacrifices we make out there and some of them go and they never make it home," said Stacey Parker with the Phoenix Police Department. "Something to show the families that we care and that we're there for them and that's what this is all about.”
