PHOENIX (AP) -- A racketeering lawsuit filed on behalf of nine Phoenix firefighters or their survivors contends a New Jersey-based company fraudulently and systematically delayed and denied worker's compensation claims for on-the-job injuries.

The suit accuses York Risk Services Group of Parsippany of engaging in an ongoing scheme to wrongfully delay and deny timely payments to injured firefighters for medical and basic living expenses.

The suit alleges the family of a firefighter who died of colon cancer said to have been caused by work exposure to a hazardous chemical lost its home because York failed to timely pay benefits.

The suit filed July 26 in U.S. District Court in Phoenix seeks unspecified damages.

York Risk Services officials issued a statement Thursday saying it won't discuss the specifics of individual claims.
