PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns are making it easier for all of us to pay tribute to the men and women in the Armed Forces.
On Friday, the Suns launched the "Holiday Cards for Troops" campaign, encouraging fans to write a special message to overseas troops who won't be with their families during the holiday season. The cards are free, and the Suns will be covering the cost for postage. Fans can also bring their own cards in an unsealed envelope to send overseas.
The Suns are teaming up with Lynda Wooten, who started the campaign in 2003 when her son served as a medic in Iraq.
"It was just overwhelming to think that people, strangers, were sending cards," says Wooten. "He had one medic in his unit who had no family. And when I heard that, that was the reason, what motivated me to start the card project."
Holiday cards will be available during all home games from Nov.15 to Dec. 6:
November 15 vs. Brooklyn Nets
November 20 vs. Sacramento Kings
November 27 vs. Portland Trailblazers
November 30 vs. Utah Jazz
December 6 vs. Toronto Raptors
