PHOENIX -- Police are asking for the public's help to identify and locate a man suspected of stealing a car from an auto dealership and a diamond ring from a jewelry store.
Police said the unknown suspect stole a silver 2008 Chevy Impala from Courtesy Chevrolet at 12th Street and Camelback Road in Phoenix on March 13. The keys were left in the ignition.
The suspect then drove to Kierland Commons located near Scottsdale Road and Greenway Parkway where he entered several jewelry stores with a ruse of "price shopping" while looking at rings, according to Sgt. Darren Burch, Silent Witness coordinator. He was allowed to handle a diamond ring at Jewelry by Gauthier and ran out of the store with it.
Burch said the man got into the stolen car and drove wildly in reverse, almost crashing into another vehicle.
A witness wrote down the license plate number of the vehicle, which was recovered in another parking lot at Kierland Commons.
The suspect is described as a black male, 50 to 55 years old, 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 4 inches tall and approximately 230 pounds.
A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and/or indictment of the suspect. Contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or silentwitness.org with any information.
