PHOENIX -- Summer is right around the corner, which means summer camp is on the forefront of many parents’ minds. There are numerous overnight summer camps to choose from but it’s important to find the right fit for a child’s needs and interests.
Summer camp no longer has to be just traditional activities such as hiking and roasting marshmallows.
Take, for instance, Pali Adventures. It's a one-of-a-kind camp in Southern California that offers an array of unique summer camp programs including Hollywood Stunt Camp, Secret Agent Camp, Rock Star Academy, and more!
Kids have more than 50 activities to choose from on a daily basis, including yoga, zip-lining, EuroBungee, flying trapeze and high ropes, to name just a few.
Pali Adventures camp director, Ian Brassett, has been a camp professional for over 20 years and advises parents to check out the facility for themselves and make sure the camp has plenty of daily activities.
Another important factor to take into consideration is to make sure the camp makes safety a top priority. It should be ACA (American Camp Association) certified with all staff having received a background check. Trained medical professional should be on staff, as well.
Other notable advice includes remembering to pack the essentials.
“Believe it or not, the toothbrush is the No. 1 forgotten item.” Brassett said. “Instead of packing a video game, encourage your child to bring a deck of cards, or other items that engage interaction with other campers.”
Once parents have picked the best camp for their child, Brassett advises them to relax.
“Don’t worry about your child while they’re at camp, “ he said. “No news from camp is good news. It means they’re busy having fun.”
