PHOENIX -- An Arizona high school volleyball team is making its way into the national spotlight.
The Horizon High School girls volleyball team is ranked third in the country.
“It’s exciting for us as a group and I think for the school. But it’s all about coming out here and having fun,” said coach Valerie McKenzie.
But while the notoriety is great, senior captain Sierra Nobley says the national ranking comes with added pressure.
“It’s going to bring more pressure on ourselves,” said Nobley. “We kind of know that we’re pretty good but we have to prove that to everyone else.”
The Huskies have gone to the state championship four years in a row, and won three times.
But coach McKenzie says it takes more than just skill to win championships.
“There’s a lot of luck involved,” said McKenzie. “You have to be healthy, you have to work hard. You know there are so many things involved in high school sports, so it takes it all to make it happen.”
With a core group of returning seniors, coach McKenzie says this is the most talented team she’s coached.
