SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Scottsdale police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing a forklift.
An officer on patrol near Scottsdale and Camelback Roads noticed someone driving a forklift south on Scottsdale Road at about 2:30 Wednesday morning.
The officer pulled the forklift over on Stetson Drive west of Scottsdale Road, and asked the driver, 33-year-old Derek Jackson, what he was doing.
The officer reported that Jackson appeared disoriented and seemed to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He also did not have an explanation as to why he was driving the forklift down Scottsdale Road. He told the officer he was on his way home from a party.
Officers contacted the owner of the forklift, United Rentals. They found out that the forklift belonged at Fashion Square Mall for a construction project, and that nobody should be driving it at this time of the night. They also confirmed that Jackson had no connection with the company or the construction project.
Jackson was arrested for theft of the forklift, and DUI related charges. The forklift was returned to the owners.
