PHOENIX -- A Phoenix man who's accused of arson and burglary isn't shy about making admissions to 3TV from the Fourth Avenue Jail.

Gary Noel is accused of trying to burn down his wife's house on Saturday.  He's now in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and agreed to speak with 3TV.

Steve: "Why did you just admit to us that you tried to burn down your wife's house, you didn't want to wait for trial for that?"

Noel: "Everybody knows I did it."

Steve: "So, you're taking responsibility?"

Noel: "I broke in and tried to burn it down. She left me with nothing, so I wanted to leave her with nothing."

Noel said his wife was leaving him for a woman, which hurt him deeply, and that he wanted to go to her house to get some answers. He told 3TV that he wasn't necessarily going to break in, but ended up doing so with a tire iron. He said that when he saw his wife's girlfriend's belongings in a bedroom, he lit a mattress on fire.

Noel: "I was distraught, but I wasn't going to kill her. I love her too much."

Steve: "You're looking at some serious time [if convicted]. Do you think you should go to state prison for this?"

Noel: "No, I don't think so."

Steve: "If you do get time, based on your admission, are you prepared to deal with that?"

Noel: "I'll deal with it. I know I'll get time. I know I'm looking at that."

Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the fire, so no one was hurt. The house, which Noel's wife rents, was not seriously damaged.
