SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- You have the change to bid on a piece of history when a series of items from the investigation of President John F. Kennedy go up for sale in Scottsdale tonight.
The auction, which is part of J. Levine Auction & Appraisal's "Thursday Nights in Scottsdale," original crime scene photography and research from the estate of Cecil Kirk, formerly of the Scottsdale Police Department. Kirk worked for more than 20 years with the Washington D.C. Metro Police where he served as a crime scene unit supervisor before joining the Scottsdale Police Department in 1980.
Josh Levine, owner of J. Levine Auction & Appraisal, said the auction will include several dozen photos and documents relating to the JFK criminal investigation.
"Cecil was an excellent photographer who was assigned in 1963 to the federal investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas," Levine said. "He later testified in several congressional hearings regarding the JFK case.
"He came to Scottsdale to assist in updating the Scottsdale Police Department forensics capabilities after the Bob Crane murder case," Levine continued. "Crane was the star of the popular television sitcom 'Hogan's Heroes,' and was found murdered at his Scottsdale apartment in 1978. In an interesting twist, Crane was a regular performer at the Windmill Dinner Theatre, which was located in the same building that J. Levine Auction & Appraisal now occupies."
That 18,000-square-foot, two-story building was remodeled in January to include new installations and departments. The building will also include a second-floor outside patio to be completed this spring.
The high-end estate auctions will feature a variety of historic and modern fine art, vintage and retro items, collectibles, décor, estate jewelry, gold, silver, toys, electronics, rare artifacts and more.
The public is welcome to preview the March auctions on Thursdays beginning at 4 p.m. Guests are invited to mingle, enjoy refreshments and hors d'oeuvres, listen to live music and preview items prior to the start of the auction at 6 p.m.
J. Levine Auction & Appraisal is located at 10345 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale (southeast corner of Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard). Auctions are subject to a 15 percent Buyers Premium (18 percent for Internet and phone bidders).
