SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- An injured hiker was airlifted from a mountain in Scottsdale on Sunday.

The woman was about 2 and 1/2 miles up the Lost Dog Wash Trail in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve when she rolled her ankle, according to Scottsdale Fire Battalion Chief Kelly Baggs.

The trailhead is off 124th Street, north of Shea Boulevard.

Rescue crews from the Scottsdale and Phoenix fire departments used a helicopter operation to bring her down the mountain.

Baggs said she was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

"Watch your footing as you're going up these trails because they are slippery in certain places, and if you're not familiar with the trail, take your time," Baggs said.

He said the woman and her husband were hiking together and had a cellphone and plenty of water.
