Plan your project.
Decide where, accent wall, guest bath, lower half of a wall as wainscoting, etc.
Select paint colors to coordinate with the flooring, fabrics, furnishings, counter-tops, etc. You'll need at least two colors.
Tape off ceilings, baseboards, door trim and perimeter areas.
Cover counters, mirrors, floors, etc. for protective purposes. Paint the lighter of your two colors as the base coat; prime first if needed.
After base coat is thoroughly dry, measure walls side to side and determine width of stripes. Common widths range from 4 inches to 10 inches.
Smaller walls or rooms use smaller stripes. The average stripe width 6 to 8 inches.
Mark walls at top and bottom. Tape from mark at the top to mark at the bottom inside every other stripe. This will ensure all even stripes
Secure the tape from the top mark. If you pull the tape out from the wall then back in at the bottom mark, it will automatically create a straight line.
Seal tape on the edge facing inside to the stripe that will be painted with the BASE COAT color.
Anything that will seep through and penetrate under the tape will match the base color, this will create razor-sharp lines.
Paint darker stripe color. Apply a second coat if needed.
Peel away tape while paint is wet or still tacky.
Adorn with nail heads, a secondary stripe color, jewels or just leave as is.
