PHOENIX -- A Phoenix man says his geese and dog alerted him to a fire at his home Tuesday morning.

It happened at about 8 a.m. in the neighborhood of 44th Street and McDowell Road.

Capt. Ruben Saavedra of the Phoenix Fire Department said crews were on the scene in about three minutes and found a working fire in a storage room attached to the home.

Firefighters believe the fire started in a chicken coop and spread from there. Crews contained the flames to the storage room, minimizing the damage to the rest of the home.

Video from the scene showed a scorched area on the roof at the back of the house.

The man got out safely thanks to his geese and dog sounding the alarm. He spotted the fire when he went to see why they were raising a ruckus.

Because firefighters isolated the fire and knocked it down so quickly, the structure was not affected and the man is already back in his home.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
