PHOENIX -- Your dishwasher works hard cleaning all the food debris and greasy residue off of your dishes. It is important that you clean the dishwasher from time to time to keep it running at its best and also to remove odor.

Never use any cleaning agent to wash the dishes in your dishwasher except automatic dishwasher detergent. One of the best for hard water is Finish.

To remove the residue the builds up in the dishwasher and on your dishes use Lemishine. You can find this in the laundry aisle where automatic dishwasher detergent is sold. Use according to directions. I like to use my automatic dishwasher detergent in my prewash cup and use Lemishine in the detergent cup for each load. It keeps my dishes and my dishwasher sparkling.

Dishwasher odor
Sprinkle 20 Mule Team Borax in the bottom of the dishwasher and leave it overnight. Using a damp sponge, wipe down the inside of the dishwasher, door and gaskets. No need to rinse, just do the next load of dishes.

Stubborn stains
Use a little Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser to remove stains and residue from the dishwasher. Rub it in with a damp sponge and rinse with a wet sponge. Find in the cleanser aisle at the grocery store.

Dishwasher odor and cleaning
Once a month it is a good idea to clean your dishwasher. I do this with a product called Smelly Washer. It is used for cleaning your washing machine of residue and odor and works equally well in the dishwasher and is safe for food surfaces. Put a cap in the detergent cup and let it run through the normal cycle. Find out about Smelly Washer and buy at queenofclean.com.
