PHOENIX -- The temperatures in the Valley are rising, but a popular hot-weather attraction for kids will not open up until summer.

The eight splash pads at Phoenix city parks will be shut down until summer, even those that were already open.

It's all in an effort to save money. "The thing about splash pads is they are not like a pool," says David Urbinato of Phoenix Parks and Rec. "They don't use the same water and filter it and recirculate it. It's all treated drinking water that goes down into the drain so the water costs can get pretty high."

City officials say the splash pads will all reopen on May 25. All the splash pads opened at the beginning of the month for the season. The city hopes to save $50k by keeping the splash pads closed for the next six and a half weeks.
