PHOENIX -- Cox Communications is offering free calls up to an hour long through Nov. 30 so people can contact loved ones affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and make sure they are safe. Cox will also be offering the Filipino Channel.

Winds from the typhoon reached nearly 200 mph and thousands have been killed.

Frank Engstrom of American Red Cross visited "Good Morning Arizonia" Thursday to talk about a telecommunications system an Arizona volunteer from the organization is helping to set up.

Glen Bradley, a Red Cross volunteer from Lakeside, Ariz., arrived in the Phillipines Tuesday morning. He is helping set up technology to make it easier to get in touch with loved ones affected by the typhoon. The satellite system is being set up in a region of the Phillipines that has been hit the hardest.

American Red Cross has received many donations, but Engstrom said they still need more because the cost of operation in the Philippines is very costly.
