PHOENIX -- A child was struck by a car Monday evening in west Phoenix.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of 51st Avenue and McDowell Road.
When paramedics arrived on the scene, the 8-year-old was breathing but bleeding from the head. The young victim was transported to a pediatric trauma center. Police say the child's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The accident does not appear to be a hit-and-run. Police were seen talking to a driver of a pickup truck at the scene.
McDowell Road was shut down for a short time but has now reopened.
