PHOENIX --  The 4th of July offers a perfect opportunity to say thank you to members of the military.

Raising Cane's took the opportunity on this Independence Day to support our troops overseas by hosting its 4th annual care package event.

Employees and community members teamed up with folks from Packages from Home Friday morning. They all gathered at the 44th Street and Thomas location to assemble care packages for men and women serving overseas.

The event is part of the franchise's "Community Strong" program, an effort that has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the community over the years.

"We're closing the restaurant; we're putting together a bunch of care packages," Justin Micatrotto from Raising Cane's tells us. "We've got a whole bunch of items we're packing up into some care packages. We're going to send about 150 of these overseas, and then we've got another 150 that we're going to keep domestic and help some of the vets who have come home."

Raising Can's has five locations around the Valley. The restaurant holds similar events every Easter and 4th of July. "There's always something going on for the community," Justin says.
