CHANDLER, Ariz. – Police are asking for the public's help as they try to determine who is responsible for smashing the windows out of dozens of cars in Chandler.

The Chandler Police Department has received approximately 100 reports of damage to vehicles throughout the city since the beginning of August. In one night alone, police received more than 30 reports.

The damage mainly consists of shattered windows caused by a BB gun, pellet gun or baseball bat, according to police.

"These are all happening in the late-night hours while the cars are parked out on residential streets, while the vehicles are parked in driveways, while the homeowners are at home in bed asleep," Chandler police Sgt. Joe Favazzo said Friday.

Similar incidents have been reported in Gilbert and Phoenix.

"This is an expensive amount of damage we're talking about," Favazzo said.

"Whoever's doing this is no longer playing the misdemeanor game," he said. "They are now playing the felony game and when they get caught, there's going to be heavy consequences, not only that but repayment."

If the suspects are juveniles, their parents will be held responsible to pay back all of the damages.

Detectives are investigating a number of leads in these cases.

Police released a photo of a possible suspect vehicle and hoped to release photos of the damaged vehicles sometime Friday.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect or suspects in these incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call 480-782-4130 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

Silent Witness is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of a suspect or suspects.
