PHOENIX -- The "Fastest Wiener in the West" is Arizona’s very own Oscar." The feisty dachshund was crowned with the title at the 17th Annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals Championship Race at the San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade on Dec. 27.
Out of 700 competitors, Oscar competed against seven finalists to bring home the title of “2012 Wiener Nationals Champion.”
Oscar and his owners, Tyson and Jillian Rondeau, took home the $1,000 grand prize, topped the Wienerschnitzel float in the parade and were honored at the Holiday Bowl field at halftime.
Of the three dachshunds Tyson and Jillian own, Oscar is the only racing dog.
“He’s just crazy for the ball,” Tyson said. “[At] 4 months he started fetching and he went crazy for it.”
The Rondeaus are hoping to continue this winning streak and plan for Oscar to compete in a race in February.
The Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals is a thrilling race to crown the fastest dachshund in the nation.
