PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks loaded up the buses after practice Tuesday for a little bit of paintball and a whole lot of team bonding.
"I imagine there will probably be some bragging rights on the line,” explains Willie Bloomquist. “More than anything it’s probably good for us to get out there and do something other than chasing a white ball around the field."
The DBacks could use some team bonding. There are plenty of fresh faces in the club house. There is a new starting pitcher in Brandon McCarthy, former All Star Martin Prado covering 3rd and recent NLCS MVP Cody Ross in the outfield just to name a few.
Some of the players are taking the team activity a bit more serious than the others. Several players, like Wade Miley and JJ Putz, were decked out -- head to toe -- in camouflage.
Bloomquist was quick to point out that their forest colored camouflage won’t give them an advantage. "They will probably stick out a little more because of the desert landscape. They don’t really think that far ahead. They just think the camo looks good. But, I think when they get out there, they are going to see that in a desert landscape it doesn’t really help them out."
Some of the players say they have a few specific targets (teammates) in mind for when they are out on the field of battle, but they are keeping that information close to the vest.
Bloomquist said, "Yeah there's a few. But, I will keep that under my hat until it happens. And, then I can run around and brag about it. Yeah, there are a couple of guys that I have in mind. We will have to see if I am fortunate enough to get around to seeing them amongst everyone that is out there."
