PHOENIX-- Ever feel like you're in a workout rut? This week on Good Morning Arizona, we've found some new and unusual fitness trends to spice up your gym routine.
On Monday, we checked out a yoga workout with a twist: aerial 'hammock' yoga. The name pretty much says it all. You're suspended in a hammock, of sorts, doing yoga.
It's similar to the acrobatics you might have seen in Cirque du Soliel shows, and it's actually the same type of fabric that's used in the performances.
Sierra Ramm is the Aerial Yoga instructor at the Scottsdale Fairmont Princess. "You'll notice there is a lot of fabric here," Ramm says. "It's about 6 feet of nylon fabric."
She says this workout is far removed from your typical yoga experience. "If we were in a regular yoga class, this wouldn't be holding your leg to get deep into that stretch," Ramm told 3TV's Yetta Gibson.
There are many benefits to this unique workout, including increased flexibility. Ramm also promises: you won't be bored. "I don't know about you but I have a hard time walking on a treadmill," she says. "So if you give your body something different to do. It reinvigorates you. It gets you excited, gets you going."
"We have a great time," says Ramm. "They have a sense of accomplishment."
