PHOENIX -- She doesn't make the play-call from the sidelines at Sun Devil Stadium like her husband, Arizona State University head coach Todd Graham, but Penni Graham is a critical part "Team Graham."
During the "Guess Who's Cooking" segment on "Good Morning! Arizona," Graham talked about how her husband's coaching position is more than just a job. It's a mission for the couple.
They embrace the players like family, many of whom do not have any relatives in town. The couple regularly hosts Sunday dinners at their home for the team and staff. Additionally, Graham says she enjoys watching the players grow from teenagers to young men and eventually go on to become husbands and fathers.
The Grahams have spent many Thanksgivings with their "extended family." Often college football games are played the day after turkey day so the holiday has always revolved around football for them. That is why, while most people might not think of chili as a Thanksgiving staple, for the Graham family it is tradition.
Graham shared her recipe for Sun Devil Chili, on Good Morning! Arizona. She makes it with turkey, a healthy option for her husband, who has lost some 40 pounds in the past six months after a change in diet and exercise routines.
Sun Devil Chili
1 Tbsp. granulated onion
2 tsp. granulated garlic
3 Tbsp. chili powder
2 Tbsp. paprika
1 Tbsp. ground cumin
2 tsp. cayenne pepper
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 lbs. all-white ground turkey
1 can of black beans
1 can of kidney beans
28.5 oz. iced tomatoes
Mix spices and set aside.
Add meat and tomatoes to non-stick pan. Use chopper or spatula to mix meat and tomatoes as they cook for about five minutes on medium-high.
When meat and tomatoes ready, add spice mix. Stir for a couple of minutes to mix well.
Add beans, including liquid.
Simmer for 30 minutes.
Since arriving in Arizona, Graham has immersed herself in the community, becoming involved in several charitable organizations, including ASU Women & Philanthropy. The group will host a holiday luncheon on Dec. 5. It's a great opportunity for prospective members to learn more about Women and Philanthropy. For more information on the event click here.
