PHOENIX -- A Phoenix woman is breathing a sigh of relief after what seemed like an uphill battle with a major shipping company.

Romande Hallman recently appeared on 3 On Your Side, saying UPS lost $500 worth of Christmas gifts she paid to have shipped overseas to her son and his family. Her son is serving in the military in Afghanistan.

She paid UPS $186 to ship the goods and was stunned to learn that the company dropped her packages off at a post office. She said UPS denied responsibility for the loss.

But Hallman says the shipping company gave her a full refund after 3 On Your Side got involved. The refund not only included the $186 she paid for shipping but the $500 she spent on the gifts.

"My mind was blown this morning when the guy knocked on the door and actually delivered this check,” she said. "He apologized profusely for what happened, and said that they were going to take care of it and going to try to continue to track down the boxes."

Romande says she plans to send the money to her family so they can purchase their own gifts.

"But we couldn't have done it without 3 On Your Side," Hallman said. "I'm just immensely grateful that it's been taken care of and it's been resolved in a very positive way."

UPS said Hallman's packages were taken to a post office because only the U.S. Postal Service can deliver packages to military addresses.
