BUCKEYE VALLEY, Ariz. -- Three children, ages 6, 7 and 13, were taken to the hospital after being hit by a car in the area of McDowell Road and 308th Avenue in Buckeye Valley.
It happened at about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday west of Palo Verde Road, between Tonopah Salome Highway and Interstate 10.
According to Maricopa County Sheriff's Deputy Joaquin Enriquez, initial reports were that the kids had suffered potentially life-threatening injuries and were taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital.
According to the Buckeye Valley Fire Department crew that transported them, the boys had mostly minor injuries -- bumps and bruises. They were taken to the hospital as a precaution and have since been released.
Enriquez said two of the boys are brothers. The third is related, but it's not known how. The three were waiting for their school bus with three other children west of the intersection of 309th Avenue and Lynnwood Street.
According to Enriquez, Ashley Reed, 18, of Buckeye, was driving the Ford Taurus that hit the boys. She stayed at the scene and talked to investigators. She reportedly told them that she did not see the kids.
Detectives are trying to determine exactly what happened and were closely examining the Taurus, especially the broken headlight on the passenger side.
Enriquez said speed and impairment were not factors in the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
At this time, it is undetermined if Reed will be cited for any civil infractions.
