EL MIRAGE, Ariz. -- Investigators are trying to determine what sparked and early morning house fire and whether the two people who were inside when it started lived there or were squatting.
Flames gutted the home in the area of Thunderbird Road and Grand Avenue. It happened just after 3 a.m.
The two people who were inside made it out safe.
Fire investigators have not determined how the fire started, but they know it probably was not electrical because it looks like there were no utilities connected to the house.
The apparent lack of utilities raises questions about the people who were inside when the fire started.
Investigators are trying to determine if they were legal residents or squatters.
Firefighters say the house is a total loss.
