PHOENIX -- Police were investigating two shooting scenes Monday night in an apparent domestic violence situation where one man was shot and the suspected gunman tried to kill himself at a hospital in North Phoenix.

According to police, the suspect, a 28-year-old black man, walked into the Jamba Juice at Interstate 17 and Thunderbird Rd. He forced 3 employees to the rear of the business where he took their cell phones and damaged the store phone.

One of the victims was the suspect's ex-boyfriend, a 24-year-old white man, who he forced out the back door of the business at gunpoint.

The victim fought back and the suspect shot the victim twice. Witnesses said the suspect shot the victim in the neck and the hand.

The suspect then drove himself to John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital, at I-17 and the Loop 101, where he entered the emergency room and shot himself in the head.

"Since we've been out here we have learned the two male subjects had been involved in a relationship, were no longer together and the subject came back to confront him I guess about the previous relationship," said Lt. Sean Kennedy with the Phoenix Police Dept.

Both men are said to be in critical condition. Police said the victim is expected to survive.

According to Phoenix police, there were prior incidents between these two men.

The victim has filed several reports about the suspect damaging his property and threatening him.

Police arrested the suspect on April 22, 2013 in relation to those previous incidents. He was out on bond and had just accepted a plea deal Monday on the charges.
