Teen suspects in grandfather's murder make initial court appearances

PHOENIX -- The  two 17-year-olds accused of murdering a Valley grandfather while he was out for his nightly walk will be tried as adults.

Brandon Roberts and Nadeem Alferikh both made their initial appearances before a judge early Friday morning.

Roberts is facing charges of felony murder and armed robbery. Alferikh is facing charges of felony murder, armed robbery, burglary, trafficking in stolen property and possession of stolen property.

A judge ordered that each 17-year-old boy be kept in custody on a $1 million bond. The judge also appointed each teen a public defender.
