SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Scottsdale Police had to pry a woman off a tree she was trying to save.
When Tannis Revell heard chainsaws slice into the towering eucalyptus next to hear home, near 86th Street and Chaparral in Scottsdale, she latched on to the tree and refused to let go.
Officers eventually cuffed Revell, and took her to jail.
On her way to the patrol car, Revell screamed at her neighbor, begging her to reconsider the plan to take the tree down.
"Animals live in that tree! I don't want you to chop it down," she yelled to her neighbor, and the tree's owner, Jeannette Billings.
"It's a safety risk," said Billings, who wasn't happy to see the tree go either.
"But it's splitting, dropping branches, leaning toward my house, and if it falls it'll kill someone," said Billings.
Revell was the only one to risk arrest to save the tree, but others supported her efforts.
"I'm very upset," said Revell's friend, Shane O'Neill, "It's senseless to cut down such a beautiful tree with historic value."
He described Revell as "an activist."
"She's really 'eco' and earthly, and doesn't like these rash decisions [which hurt the environment]," said Revell.
Scottsdale Police arrested Revell for disturbing the police, and booked her into the city jail.
