QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. -- Gunner Mertlich of Queen Creek is getting a new baby sister. She will be his third little sister -- and he was not happy about it. Not happy at all. He was hoping -- really, really hoping -- for a little brother.
"It's a another girl!" the 6-year-old wailed after learning he was getting another sister. "I hate girls! ... It's always girls! ... I don't want another girl! It's too much girls!"
His parents caught his reaction on video.
Baby reveal gone wrong!
Gunner's parents told 3TV's Erika Flores they were surprised at his reaction because he is normally a mellow kid.
Even his two sisters didn't know how to respond.
"I think they didn't know how to handle what he was doing," said their father Jason Mertlich. "They were kind of like, 'OK, we don't have to go that far with it.' "
Gunner stormed out of the room without even having a piece of cake.
"He didn't want to have any cake. He wanted nothing to do with any of us," his mother Tiffany Mertlich said.
Gunner told 3TV he was hoping for a baby brother so that they could play superheroes and Legos together instead of Barbies.
His parents were also hoping to give their only son a brother.
"I dealt with it earlier that morning at the doctor's office when we were told," Jason Mertlich laughed.
But the couple said they are excited to add another healthy baby girl to their family.
Gunner is warming up to it, too.
