PHOENIX -- Police are searching for a man who attempted to steal a woman's purse earlier this month.

The crime occurred July 3 at approximately 5:30 p.m. on a walkway in front of a business at 6022 North 16th Street in Phoenix, which is just north of Bethany Home Road.

The 58-year-old victim was walking when the perpetrator approached from behind and grabbed her purse.

The victim fought for her purse and was dragged part way down the walkway and into the parking lot before the man gave up and fled.

The man was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed in a white Pontiac Grand Am.

In surveillance video released by Silent Witness, the would-be purse snatcher could be seen entering a business just before the woman walked by the door. He appeared to be waiting for her. After she passed the door the man came out of the business and grabbed her purse.

The video shows her being dragged into the parking lot.

The victim was left with some serious abrasions on her leg but was not seriously injured.
The suspect is described as an Hispanic male, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 210 pounds, wearing a grey t-shirt and shorts.
