AGUILA, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say a man whose truck was stolen in northwestern Maricopa County fired warning gunshots in the dark at sheriff's deputies who had found the vehicle.
The deputies weren't injured and didn't return fire.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Joaquin Enriquez says the truck's owner ignored an order to let deputies handle the search near the community of Aguila early Sunday morning and drove around with two others looking for the truck.
Enriquez says the owner initially denied involvement in the shooting and said he saw people running from the truck.
Enriquez says the owner didn't think he was firing at deputies who were about 20 feet away, but his actions were still reckless.
Enriquez says the owner eventually admitted to firing the shots and is expected to face charges.
