PHOENIX -- Our latest Silver Apple Award winner comes from a long line of Arizona educators. In fact, Elizabeth Yaeger's family settled here before statehood. So teaching her second graders at Sevilla Primary in Surprise just comes naturally.

"This is our Grammar Garden and it's just little ways to help us to remember all the different grammar rules," Yaeger said, showing 3TV's photographer around.

Yaeger's Grammar Garden is one of many fun ways this creative teacher helps her second graders grow.

Harley Noble, 7, nominated her teacher for the Silver Apple.

"She makes learning fun and entertaining," Noble said. "Ms. Yaeger believes in me and helps me not give up."

"I love my kids," Yaeger said. I love being with my students. They crack me up on a daily basis. It's what keeps you going every day."

Our sponsor, Dr. Alex Bigham, presented the Silver Apple along with a $500 check from Novocur Pain Management Centers.

"My school is like a family," Yaeger said. "I can't imagine the children and my friends and family here not being party of my life."
