PHOENIX -- A storm system dropping from the north along the backbone of the Rocky Mountains will bring us much colder weather in northern and eastern Arizona by Sunday.

We could see temperatures drop more than 20 degrees from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.  For instance, we’re forecasting highs in the low-50s for Flagstaff on Saturday. On Sunday, Flagstaff probably won’t make it out of the 30s.

However, with that cold air, we’re just not going to see a lot of moisture; it’s really a dry cold front. Only eastern portions of our state will get any precipitation at all. And even there, it will be fairly light. It will also be fairly windy on Sunday across much of northern and eastern Arizona, with peak winds in the 40 mph range.

As the cold air settles in, by Monday morning, we’re going to see low temperatures in the mountains in the single-digits!

Here in the Valley, our forecast is not as dramatic although we are going to see cooler temperatures. Highs on Saturday will be in the low-70s and on Sunday in the upper-60s. And by Monday morning around metro Phoenix, we’ll see some Valley locations drop into the 30s.
