PHOENIX -- As temperatures soar into territory well above average for August, the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the weekend. The warning includes the Valley Metro area and goes from 10 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday for afternoon temperatures peaking near 112 degrees and especially warm overnight lows near 90 degrees.
Look for partly sunny skies in the Valley today with a high of 111 degrees. There is a slight chance of storms this afternoon and evening, but a better chance Saturday through Monday.
Temperatures will be just as warm tomorrow, but drop off to about 108 on Sunday. If you're headed out to tailgate for the Cardinals preseason game tomorrow, look for warm midday temperatures already in the triple digits.
There is also an Ozone Health Watch for today for the Valley. Ground level ozone can cause breathing problems for those with sensitive respiratory systems. Everyone is encouraged to carpool and refuel after dark.
