MESA, Ariz. -- Authorities believe they’ve arrested the two men responsible for a violent home invasion in Mesa.
Jesus Andrade and Joshua Romero have been arrested for allegedly forcing their way into an elderly couple’s home and stealing several items from the residence.
Romero, who had painted his face red, was reportedly the first suspect to enter the home. A few moments later, Andrade entered the house and helped zip tie the 81-year-old Tracy Gapp and his 78-year-old wife Aneta Gapp.
"All of a sudden, right between us, turns around, his face is all red, and he's got a pistol," said Aneta.
The suspects fled the scene after stealing such items as a cell phone and cash.
"They took off, left the door wide open, and took off like crazy," Aneta recalled.
Deputies with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office were able to track down the pair by tracing a number one of the men called from the stolen cell phone.
The Gapps are happy that two men were caught, and thankful that they weren't injured during the robbery.
"I'm very thankful that we're both alive," said Aneta.
This story has been corrected to show that Maricopa County Sheriff's Deputies handled the case, not Mesa police officers.
