Burned on food in a casserole: Fill it with hot water and drop in a used or new dryer softener sheet. Let it soak a few hours or overnight. When you pour out the water, the burned on food with be softened and pour right out. Wash and dry the casserole as usual.
Burned on food in skillets or pan: If the gravy is firmly stuck to the bottom of the pan, fill the pan with hot water and add a good handful of baking soda. Bring to a boil and then simmer until the burned food rises to the surface.
Burned on food in oven: Do yourself a favor and head to Bed Bath and Beyond or a kitchen store and get a Silicone Oven Liner. You can use it in gas or electric ovens. Please read the directions before using. It will catch spills and allow you to remove it, wash it easily and put back in.
Red wine on your tablecloth or carpet: Pour white wine on it. That will neutralize the red wine. Flush with Club Soda and blot, blot, blot!
Gravy or green bean casserole on carpet: Sprinkle with heavy coating of baking soda or corn starch. Let it sit to draw the goop away from the carpet. After a few hours lift what you can with a plastic putty knife or dull straight edge. Extract, using your favorite carpet spotter (mine is Carpet CPR at Bed Bath and Beyond). Allow to dry.
Tough spots and stains: Mix ½ cup of hydrogen peroxide with 1 teaspoon of ammonia and apply to carpet. Let sit for about 20 minutes and then blot. Finish by blotting with a cloth wrung out in cold water.
