PHOENIX – Arizona stores are getting ready to mark up their merchandise because of Proposition 100, which voters overwhelmingly approved Tuesday night in a statewide special election.

The temporary one cent sales tax increase will be in effect for the next three years. You may not notice a big difference on small purchases but on a new car, for example, it will cost you hundreds of dollars more to buy one.

One person 3TV spoke to says, “It adds up a little bit, but, you know, whether you're for it or against it, it's here and we just gotta live with it." Another one added, “It hadn't crosses my mind. I think it's great that it passed."

The new sales tax goes into effect on June 1. Money collected will help fund education, public safety and other services.
